fotp.online is an online event inspired by the Festival of the Photocopier - the largest annual zine fair in the Southern Hemisphere!
Unfortunately, due to the restrictions in Melbourne (Victoria) over the last year, we decided that it would be best to run the FotP as an online event in February, 2021! We know it’s not quite the same as being in a room with 300 to 500 people but we still want to share the zines created by the community over the last year.
fotp.online was created by Samantha Riegl and Beck Vinci from Sticky Institute. We would also like to thank Jesse Eddy and Ryan from Perth for their assistance.
fotp.online will be online for at least a year after it launches on the 20th of February, 2021. Keep an eye on our Facebook page for all fotp.online updates (and other zine related goodness)!
We’re sorry we missed this. Please send us a message via the contact form with a link to the content you are referring to so that we can rectify this as soon as possible.
Restrictions allowing for it, we’re hoping to have an in-person fair in August, 2021! We’re aware that this zine fair can only go ahead if Melbourne’s Covid-normal allows for medium to large indoor events, so keep your fingers crossed for us!
A zine is an independent publication that is made for love, not profit. Generally, they are made on the cheap using a photocopier and assembled with a stapler for easy distribution. This kind of self-made, artist-driven publication keeps the costs low and makes them incredibly accessible as a medium!
The word ‘zine’ comes from the shortening of ‘magazine’. Keeping this in mind, you’ll find that ‘zeen is the correct pronunciation, not ‘zyne’.
All you need to make a zine is an idea to get started! Putting together content for your zine is probably the hardest part, but once you know what you want to say, figuring out how to say it becomes a lot easier. If you’re after some tips on how to get started or layout your zine make sure you have a look at the collection of DIY Resources we have put together!
